Rob Kaplan, commercial director with Saville ProductionsRob obtained a degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics in 1994 but was really interested in shooting films on his camcorder. He created the acclaimed British television documentaries like Modern Times and Cutting Edge for the BBC and Channel 4, and moved onto writing and directing thrilling drama-documentary for U.S. broadcasters like Discovery, National Geographic and History Channels, focusing on character driven accounts of adventure and high stakes. An early short film won a Wranglers Sponsored Film Competition and then his next drama was highly commended by Turner Classic Movies shorts competition.

Inspired to move into the advertising field as a commercial director, he won the Cfp/e Shots Magazine New Director Award in the Cannes Advertising Festival and was named in the Top new 10 new directors to watch worldwide. Through his work as a BBC Top Gear film director, he learned to shoot cars and adventures. This has culminated in worldwide advertising films for brands such as Land Rover, Mazda, Nissan, Triumph, Ducati, Jaguar, and others. Recently, he shot the biggest-hitting Indian automotive TVC campaign of the year for their market leader in sales, Suzuki Swift.

Rob currently features as a director on National Geographic’s hugely acclaimed, 2018 mega doc-series on planet Earth, One Strange Rock, with Darren Aronofsky, hosted by Will Smith.

Rob combines the sensitivities of a human-interest storyteller with highly developed technical and stylistic skills honed in advertising films.
